"Love makes the world go round? Not at all. Whiskey makes it go round twice as fast."
Adaptation
Superb! I really love the film!
I picked the VCD in a rental shop last Sunday and I only chose it because all the movies I wanted to see were out already. I was obliged to watch it yesterday evening after arriving from work. I have to fight the urge to sleep as soon as I arrive because the VCD is due today. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the movie is really, really, really good! Definitely worth the effort of staying awake till 1:00AM!
"ORIGINAL" both the plot and the screenplay. It's the most original film I've ever seen. Quite experimental I think. Never have I watched a movie as unique as this one.
"SIMPLE YET COMPLICATED" this movie proves that a story doesn't have to be extremely bizarre and complicated for it to be considered “original”. Each of the characters has distinct personalities. Charlie Kaufman, the lead character played by Nicolas Cage, is a serious, ill-tempered, struggling screenwriter. Donald, his twin brother, also played by Cage is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Typical twins with opposite personalities. Funny sometimes…Cage never seizes to amaze me with his acting abilities. Actually, there are two stories in this movie that lead to one unbelievable ending. The other story tells how Susan Orlean, played by Meryl Streep, came about the book entitled “The Orchid Thief” which talks about the adventures of John Laroche, an orchid aficionado played by Chris Cooper. They are all interesting in their own way. The situations however are rather odd, but nonetheless, very original.
How the story unfolds is what makes this movie extraordinary. You may say quite complicated in that aspect. Scenes and time frames are quickly and constantly shifting. It’s a book within a screenplay within a movie…where the hell can you find a movie like that?!
